In today's St. Petersburg Times, Kris Hundley sketches the current state of affairs in St. Pete, where officials are currently evaluating 5 proposals from commercial vendors willing to provide free coverage for 60 square miles. Mayor Rick Baker told Hunley that "some companies cherry-pick the more affluent areas, ignoring large parts of the city," therefore, "we're also asking if they'd consider providing low-cost or no-cost service to certain low-income areas. We're thrilled we got five pretty strong proposals" (emphasis added).
